    This Thursday &Foam, the photo museum's location on Vijzelsgracht, will open their doors for the new Music & Foam exhibition. Subbacultcha! will be showing some of our own photography there at the end of May, but before that happens, there's still plenty of other good stuff to be seen; including photos by the likes of Anton Corbijn and Ron Galella, and a nice selection of LP covers. Anyone with an interest in music and/or photography would be wise to pay this exposition a visit.

    Ready for something new? Discover Rare Species! A solo Project of Austin based Angie Kang. One month ago she posted "Get Away" a slow dance track with some trippy atmosphere.

    Psychedelic drone/noise duo Blues Control teamed up with electronic zitherist Laraaji to record an amazing album for the RVNG FRKWYS series last year. Listen to the haunting album opener Awakaning Day below. They will be performing together at WORM this Sunday as part of the Motel Mozaique festival and the show is free for Subbacultcha! members.     We've already been raving about Doldrums' Empire Sound EP and the good news is, he's just been signed to Souterrain Transmissions, and will be releasing a new 12" in June. Check out one of the excellent new songs below. 

    DOLDRUMS - EGYPT

    Spaced-out kraut-gaze group The Oscillation are playing dB's in Utrecht on Friday, free for Subbacultcha! members. Try this track to get a taste of their wares, and if you like what you hear, the rest of the album is on their Bandcamp.

    Musical couple Peaking Lights is releasing a new album called "Lucifer" coming out in June. LO HI the first single is an atmospheric seven minute track. At May 31 Peaking Lights is Playing a Democrazy show at DOKarena, Ghent.

    Portland's avant-pop duo AU are playing a Subbacultcha show with Blues Control & Laraaji in WORM on Sunday, as part of the Motel Mozaïque festival. Check out 'Solid Gold', a track that starts off slow, but then gets pretty wild.

     

    "Walls" Is the second track on Win Win's "Ones & Zeros " Single. This hypnotizing song is covering a prolific British punk band. Let's do some head banging dance moves!

    Powerful synth pop duo Light Asylum are releasing their eagerly awaited debut album on Mexican Summer on 01 May. Listen to A Certain Person, the last track on the album.     LIGHT ASYLUM - A CERTAIN PERSON

    Former Lovvers lo-fi punk Shaun Hencher has released a new song with his fresh band Virals. It's less crass, more pop, and listening to 'Coming Up With The Sun' really makes you hope that the sun is gonna show it's face a lot more this spring.

    Über-cool Brooklyn crew Friends have released a new single. The funky dance track 'Mind Control' will appear on their debut album 'Manifest!', out June 5th on Fat Possum Records. You can catch these guys and girls live during the Motel Mozaïque festival. They are playing a late night show on 21 April at Rotown.

    FRIENDS - MIND CONTROL

    Friends will perform at Les Nuits Botanique, Brussels on 15 May. Yesterday the Brooklyn indie quintet teased us once more with a fresh new song Mind Control.

    This Friday, Teen Daze will be playing at De Nieuwe Anita, free for Subbacultcha! members. Check out this new track from his upcoming album: 'The Future' is a fine example of his recent shift towards more dance-able tunes, that nonetheless still let you blissfully drift away.

    POMRAD - DANS

    Belgian future funk brother Pomrad is releasing his debut EP 'Vlotjes' via the OohWee label and we're loving this synth-driven tune Dans. On 11 May he's playing at Trix Antwerp and the show is free for members.

    Nouveau Vélo from Helmond are supporting Odonis Odonis at OT301 this Thursday. They describe themselves as 'healing pop'. Not sure what that entails exactly, but after listening to their sunny lo-fi pop tunes you're bound to feel better.

    MIAUX - ETUDE DES TÊTUS

    When it comes to melodic synth wave Miaux is one of our favourite artists of the moment. She released a cassette via Taped Sounds and here you have the title track Etude Des Têtus. On 30 April Miaux is opening for U.S. Girls at DOK, Ghent and it's free for members.

    Another stunning releasing coming out in RVNG's FRKWYS series. This time LA based experimentalist Sun Araw went down to Jamaica to record with dub legends The Congos. And the result it's pretty amazing. Check out the groovy opening track below.

    THOSE DARLINS - MYSTIC MINDS

    Awesome Tapes From Africa are re-releasing an album called volume 7 by Ghanese kologo player Bola. We've only heard the extremely groovy track below and can't wait to hear the rest of it.

    Dean Blunt and Inga Copeland, members of Hype Williams have teamed up for a new album called Black Is Beautiful, out April 16 on Hyperdub. They are playing with BRNS at De Kreun, Kortrijk on April 9 and it's free for members.

    A new Liars' record is coming out in June on mute. Such news always brings excitment here at the office. Check out the first preview below. It's a subdued track with electronic beats and synths. Pretty different from what we've come to expect from them.But then again, that's what makes the band so unique. They always turn a corner, when you don't expect them to.  

    LIARS - NO. 1 AGAINST THE RUSH

    Deerhunter guitarist/multi-instrumentalist Lockett Pundt just put out a soothing pop album under his solo monniker Lotus Plaza. The sound is very similar to Deerhunter and Atlas sound, but enjoyable nontheless. Listen to one the albums tracks below.

    Yacht recorded a cover of Le Goudron, a song that was the result of a collaboration back in 1969 between Brigitte Fontaine and The Art Ensemble of Chicago. Safe to say the Yacht version sounds completely different. Click play and get ready to boogie.

    The Motel Mozaique festival is about to kick off in Rotterdam. Tonight there is a free opening ceremony at De Hofbogen (starts 20.00) and then from tomorrow you can induldge in three days' worth of great music and art. The line-up includes shows by Light Asylum, Cold Specks, 2:54, Of Montreal, AU and many others.     PART TIME - I WANNE TAKE YOU OUT

    A year after releasing their debut album "What Would You Say?" Part Time shared a brand new video. We are so in love with this band!

    Weird-fi experimentalist Luke Donovan used to play in the now-defunct glam-pop group Montage Populaire. Luckily he's not been sitting still, and under his Spectral Park solo-moniker, he makes more psychedelic pop gems.

    EXTRA LIFE - FIRST SONG

    Extra life just released their third full-length album "Dream Seeds" on Northern Spy Records. "First Song" is a creepy slow motion video directed by Sue-Ling Braun. On Thursday 31 May Extra Life is playing at Les Atelier Claus, Brussels.

    IDIOT GLEE - THAT'S ALL FOR EVERYONE

    Kentucky based crooner Idiot Glee made a video for the beautiful That's All For Everyone. Check it out here.

    Os OVNI - HOLOGRAPHIC DREAMS

    Os Ovni are a time-traveling synth duo from Austin that deal in up-tempo yet spaced-out sounds. They're realeasing a new 12" on Robot Elephant Records on May 28th. This new video for the song 'Holographic Dreams' takes you on a wild visual trip trough all the 4 dimensions.

    DJANGO DJANGO - DEFAULT

    Check out Django Django's quirky stop motion video made with painted photographs. This percussive art-rock four-piece is playing Motel Mozaïque at midnight on Saturday April 21.

    MI AMI - TIME OF LOVE

    Incubate added some new names to their line-up. We're very excited to see Mi Ami play at the festival. Check out the odd but cool video for Time Of Love, taken from their new album Decade.

    Hailing from Vancouver, White Poppy (Crytstal Dorval's one-woman tape-loop solo-project) makes beautiful meandering lo-fi pop. Her debut cassette, which bears the same name as this song, is out now on not not awesome label Not Not Fun.

    PINS - ELEVENTH HOUR

    The four ladies that make up PINS are some of the hottest stuff to come out of the UK right now. They're not just attractive, the blend of noise pop and post-punk they deliver is also quite something to behold.

    CHELSEA WOLFE - SUNSTORM

    Doom folk diva Chelsea Wolfe is playing the Cheap Satanism Records evening at Magasin4, Brussels on Friday the 13th (coincidence?) and it's free for members. Check the video for Sunstorm above.

    PINS is a reverb-friendly girl group from Manchester. They debuted with a very cool golden cassette tape and made this video for 'Eleventh Hour. Watch it here.

    House, disco, funk, you name it. Auckland-based producer Mark Wundercastle created an amazing mix of all different kinds of dance music. We're loving the video for 'Bring Me Joy'. Hope you like it too?

    PORCELAIN RAFT - DRIFTING IN AND OUT

    Porcelain Raft just made a video for 'Drifting In and Out', easily one of the best tracks on his debut abum 'Strange Weekend'. The video is drifting and hazy, and fits the mood of the song quite well.

    PORCELAIN RAFT - DRIFTING IN AND OUT

    Mauro Remiddi, a.k.a. Porcelain Raft created this smoking video for Drifting In And Out. On 16 May he's playing a Subbacultcha! show at DOK, Ghent and it's free for members.

    JACUZZI BOYS - GLAZIN

    This is the very, very, very Not Safe For Work video that the "Jacuzzi Gals" made for the Jacuzzi Boys. Needless to say, the boys where so impressed, they went ahead and made it the official video. Must be some band, if their fans go to these lengths to impress them. Subbacultcha! members can see them for free on Wednesday in Rotown and on Friday in Area 51.
